So, I'm officially finished with classes and I'm now on study leave which should really be called 'that period of time used to work on the final Studio challenge.' It's really a make-it-work moment and the entire semester boils down to this.
But I have to say this semester has put me in this different sort of mood. I don't think that I display it in front of my peers, but I undoubtedly feel it in me. Now, I don't know how to put into words the way I'm feeling, but i'll use a metaphor. I feel like I'm participating in a TV reality series. I'm far away from my family and I haven't seen them much over 4 months. I'm having to deal with friends, seeing them almost every other day and giving each other support while trying to complete our own given tasks.
I know what other people go through are far worse than what I'm experiencing. I'm not whining or complaining about it. It's just that I really hope all of this helps me to grow as a better person mentally, physically and academically. And if everything doesn't turn out the way I want it to be, I just want to be able move forward and not delve into every single detail of my shortcomings.
Stay tuned for more.

Flashy or Fugly: Flash Some Ankle
Cuffing is one of those things people do just because their pants are too long. But it can also be a way to show off some ankle.
I find a lot of editorials doing the cuffing thing where they fold up the pant leg up just enough to let you see their ankle. I think it's a good look. Makes you look a little nonchalant. They do this especially when spring and summer approaches, which is perfect for us because if you want to show-off some of that ankle, where else better to do it than right here in the tropics where it's freakin hot and humid all year round. Instead of having your pants skim your shoes, cuffing your pants may also be a way to ventilate your feet...kinda. And if you want to flash your shoes, all the better!
But be warned, do NOT cuff your pants until it hits mid-calf. Just an inch or so above the ankle will do. You want to look casual, not like you're going off to work in the paddy fields.
A great way to cuff your pants is to fold them up two to three times (nothing more or else it'll be too thick) and them scrunching them up a little so that it doesn't look so neat.

Or if your pants are already perfectly cropped to the desired length, you can rock them as it is.

But more importantly, what do you think?
Stay tuned for more.

Go Read My Blog
There was this one incident which I was unfortunate to chance upon sometime ago. It was one of several to come. An incident which would put me off. This happened when my friends and I were just beginning to jump into the blogging bandwagon. But up til' now, I still come across it once in a while.
Scenario 1: I am out with a friend strolling along the corridors of some shopping mall doing our usual rounds of window shopping and walking without a specific intention in mind. I think most of my outings are just for the sake of going out. So I pose a question: "How's everything going?" and the answer I get: "Oh, long story, GO READ MY BLOG."
Scenario 2: I dial up a friend's number in hopes of talking and catching up with the things that are going down in each others' life. We say hello, talk a little and when I ask something like "Oh, so how was that occasion you attended the other day?" The reply: "Go read my blog."
So now I'm left to wonder, Am I supposed to stop in my tracks, drive home from that mall and log online to check how your week went? Am I supposed to hang up the phone and instantly read up on all the juicy details you supposedly encountered? Or should I just save both of our time, and not go out or call or see each other and just sit in front of the computer awaiting each others' blogposts?
As far as I know it, blogs are not supposed to substitute all means of communication especially one on one commmunication. Blogs are like journals. If you're overseas and calls are expensive, then fine I'll gladly read your blog to keep myself updated about your life. But if you live several blocks down from where I'm staying, I think it would be pathetic for me to find out about how your cheesy prom night went by reading it from a bloody screen. Hell no, I want to hear it from your lips!
Whoever replaces one on one conversations with the line "Go read my Blog", I'm gonna bludgeon them with a blog widget to death. You think that's not possible? Im'ma make it possible.
Listen, I want to hear your stories from you. I want it to feel more personal than reading something about your life that 2 million other people can easily access.
Oh, and what's worse than "Go read my blog" is the line "Didn't you read my blog?" Since when was I obligated to read your blog? Do you expect me to be chained to the computer desk reading every word three times just to make sure I didn't miss out anything? If I didn't read all about that drama you encountered with that bitch from economics class at college and you say to me "Why didn't you read my blog?", I will personally glue your mouth shut with the UHU glue I just bought and currently have right in front of me. That way, all future conversations between you and me will be through blogs! And maybe even twitter!
And oh, by the way,
Go read my blog for more...

Webcam
I stayed late at college again yesterday up till 2 in the morning just refining some of my assignments before the hand in today. Working everyday sure does take its toll on you and I'm planning to take it a little easy tomorrow just so I can keep my piece of mind or whatever that's left of it.
Yesterday, as I was mildly freaking out on my storyboard, I searched my laptop for a way to take pictures using the web camera as I have not tested it out since the purchase. Little did I know that it would be a pretty good way to de-stress.

By the way, in this week alone, I've done one presentation, submitted one report, a rendered video and another assignment. So now, all I've got left are 2 exam papers to sit through in 2 weeks' time and Studio work which I'm going to pour everything I've got into before the final submission which is just less than 2 weeks away. I need this, I've got to make it WORK.
Stay tuned for more.

Still
I think I need some sort of a boost. I KNOW I need some sort of a boost. An emotional booster to make me lighten up. It's just that the chronology of events lately has sunked its teeth and punctured a hole in my spirits. Sometimes I feel like I've lost all hope in life. I don't know if other people go through the same bouts of highs and lows like me. I can just sit around alone just doing nothing except breathing as if time is all I have.
I need something to jerk me out of this delirium-like state. Maybe then I'll have the actual drive I need to progress forward in the things I ought to be pouring my attention into.
You know what I think? I feel as though I'm looking at myself from a third-point of view. It's like I'm taking a step back and looking at the whole picture of my life. The things I've done. The things I'm doing and the things I want to do. It's one of those evaluation periods which I say "Hey, wait a minute...is this how it should go?" "Is this what I want?"
I think by the time this week is up, I'll begin to feel better. I've got a couple of tough days ahead of me.
Stay tuned for more.

Groggy
I only slept for 3 hours yesterday night.
CAD-ing my floor plans, elevations and sections proved to be more complicated than I thought it would be.
I managed to finish my plans and Studio went a tad leisurely today.
But then again, I've got a presentation on Monday and submissions on everyday from Tuesday to Thursday in the coming week.
At this point, I don't look forward to weekends anymore. It's just two days to sort out the work that has been piling up.
I need sleep to function.
Stay tuned for mo....*zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*

Just my Luck
One my assignments this semester involves rendering a video of at least 30 seconds of a 3D model of a building. As most of you would know I'm far from beaing the tech savvy. And naturally, I found this something of a challenge.
So yesterday I was at the college computer lab preparing to render some clips of my video. I had to make minor adjustment to the model and stuff and when I finished, I took off from college at about 10pm and left the computer on to generate the video. Something that you should probably know: A 10 second clip takes about like 8 hours to render. Insane, I know. But it's true.
So this morning I went back to college to collect the finished video. Walked into the lab...saw that the computer I used had its screen off. Upon further inspection, the whole computer was off. Apparently there was this person who was smart enough to unplug my computer so that she could plug in her laptop although I had clearly written a message, and a big message at that, saying: "DO NOT LOG OFF...RENDERING IN PROGRESS."
But unfortunately some people are just utterly blind and amazingly stupid since THERE WAS ANOTHER POWERPOINT AVAILABLE JUST RIGHT NEXT TO THE ONE SHE UNPLUGGED. And further more, she used her laptop just to use MSN messenger. Needless to say my heart sunk. All those hours I poured into that 10 second clip has just been hurled into the recycle bin. Thanks to that remarkably dim-witted soul, I feel as though I'm useless. I'm like a bird with no wings, a student without a teacher, an oversized man with an XS-sized shirt.
Where is my will to live?
Stay tuned for m.....oh who gives a sh*t.....don't stay for all I care.

Spot On: Boat Shoes
There has been a resurgence of the boat shoe in recent times. Every time I flip through a magazine my eyes never fail to stumble upon a pair of those iconic shoes. Invented back in the 1930s, it was designed to be worn on the deck of a boat as their softer soles prevent from scratching the boat surfaces.
But now you don't need to have a boat to wear one of these classic shoes. They can now carry you anywhere from casual to smart occasions. And as of this moment, they are on trend. But I never follow trends to begin with. I just like these shoes very much.

Left Behind
I made a short trip back to Penang for the weekend just to get some matters settled and ironed out like say, getting a new laptop. I finally decided upon HP Pavilion dv4 series with an overall specification which includes Centrino core 2 Duo processor (2.4GHz), NVIDIA GeForce 9200, 2GB RAM (or was it 4...), 300GB storage. And it comes with an integrated webcamera. Interesting stuff and it comes with a price tag to match.
But don't for one second think that I take it for granted, I'm extremely grateful towards my dad for allowing me to purchase such an item in a mere 2 years after the first purchase. And if anyone is keeping tabs, I'm no longer supporting SONY (sorry Jon).
The weekend was a whirlwind and I'd like to think that I took full advantage of it. But if I could have it any other way, I would have preferred to stay in KL and spend time on my Studio work which has not progressed much and thus I'm feeling very left out during my tutorials.
I'm extremely saddened by the fact that my tutor for Studio this semester is not as, how do I put it.....robust and strict as I'd hope for. I know it's such a contradiction to what I'd normally hope for but the truth is, with an uptight and demanding tutor, I'd be forced to work harder to achieve his/her standards and not slack behind due to procrastination and settle on mediocre work.
This is probably one of the greatest challenges I'm facing.
Stay tuned for more.
Pictures are coming soon.
