Spot On: Espadrille Brogues
Who would have thought perfection would arise from a Frankenstein experiment involving a pair or brogues, a pair of espadrilles and a pair of sneakers. These Prada espadrille brogues from the Spring/Summer 2011 collection are pretty much of the moment shoes ever since they hit the runway and eventually went into production. I hear they're totally sold out.

Spot On: Dries Van Noten Spring|Summer 2011
The spring/summer collection of Dries van Noten sees a careful play of haphazard Rorschach-test-inspired ink blotches on pristine white shirts which rendered unique pieces, each different from the other. And on top of that, a parade of acid washed denim jackets and jeans and working class garb which hung very nicely on skinheads, harking images of an English punk rock era. This would definitely be a fun DIY project.

Inspiration | Prints
Prints are awesome and all over the place in the men's 2010 spring/summer collections. And they are more than appropriate in our insanely hot weather. By the way, KL temperatures spiked at 35 degrees Celcius last week.
Stay tuned for more.

Eye Spy
I like the neck line of that boat neck top in the first picture. The new Topman LTD collection here has a sweater in that neckline. But it's white with horizontal stripes and frankly, I'd prefer it to be a solid colour. And plus, it's out of my budget. And as for the second picture, I just love the colour green.
Stay tuned for more.

Spot On: Jean Paul Gaultier X Levi's
I've been looking forward to Jean Paul Gaultier's collaboration with Levi's. It's giving the jean jacket a new update, but it doesn't stop there. The collaboration also features jeans and shirts. I love how they are using raw denim which makes it look so much more sleek. And also how the pieces feature contrasting red stitching.
These garments are pretty edgy but I think they would look good in most guys' wardrobes.
I would love to see these pieces hit Malaysian stores. But I'm not counting on it.

- raw denim jacket with contrasting red stitching.

- white trimming detail on the jacket with a red undercollar.

- I'm most attracted to this bondage/skydiving-inspired denim jacket.

- Denim shorts with an interesting striped pattern on the reverse side.

- Jeans with multiple straps.
I've never really liked jean jackets but the bondage inspired ones sure got me captivated.

Spot On: Combat Boots
The next shoe that I'm planning to buy would probably be a pair boots coz boots are kinda peaking my interest. Preferably boots made from black leather, cut high and laced. Like Combat Boots. They have this weatherproof feel to them as though you can wear them on the street, in the jungle , in the rain, at the beach and you get what I mean.
I can imagine wearing an all black outfit with these boots, taking large strides in the rain along the puddled alley way that is lit only by a single street lamp. It's the middle of the night and the only sounds are that of the thrashing of rain and wind against the metal dumpster. As I walk further down the lane towards my destination, I leave the eerie glow of the street lamp behind me. With each stride I plunge into greater darkness. I turn a corner and an iridescent glow of yellow and red await at the end of another alley.
I walk even faster now, running almost. My boots hitting the ground with a splash every step of the way. But I fear not for they are (hopefully) waterproof. As I reach the end of it, I am confronted with a blinding light. I peer through my rain soaked eyelids: Two golden arches of monumental scale. The mother of all logos. THE M......Mcdonalds.
Okay fine, MAYBE It's pathetic that I SOMETIMES go for midnight burger runs. And MAYBE it's stupid that I SOMETIMES still enjoy running in the rain. But hey, I just painted a pretty picture there and It's all just because of a pair of boots.

- Combat boots as seen on the runway of Dior Homme Fall/Winter 07/08

- Dior Homme Fall/Winter 07/08

- Boots by Tim Hamilton

- Doc Martens are also a viable option.

- Boots from the current collection available at Zara.
Zara Fall/Winter 2009

- A really handsome pair of brown leather boots that I wish to own if I had the cash. RM 500, bloody mad.
Zara Fall/Winter 2009
So yeah, I do want boots. Probably not when I'm in Malaysia. In the future perhaps. And I can have more time to weigh in whether to get combat boots or boots of some other kind.
Stay tuned for more.

Spot On : Julius
Menswear label Julius by Japanese designer Tatsuro Horikawa is in a league on its own. It may have started in 2001, but the label is relatively young and is slowly seeing expansion over the past few years.
Julius has an avant garde, futuristic aesthetic. It started as a black-on-black collection but in the newer collections, colours (however minimal) are starting to surface. I think it's most notable for it's severe deconstructed look. The oversized hoodies and the drapey, flowy cardigans which are so heavy that they can be used as winter outerwear.
This is one of the labels to watch and be fascinated by.

- a heavily draped navy deconstructed cardigan...

- ...which can be worn in a number of ways

- a black draped overcoat

- a gorgeous flowy hooded piece

- a cowl-neck t-shirt by Julius
These unaffordable pieces (the cardigan costs more than 1000USD) are merely inspirational.

That Ice Cream Scene
If you've watched the movie In Her Shoes, you've probably seen that scene in which Cameron Diaz goes to the fridge, opens it and reaches out for a tub of ice cream and then grabs a carton of milk. She then proceeds to open them both and pour the milk directly INTO the ice cream in the tub. With a spoon, she scoops that ice-creamy-milky mess and eats it with satisfaction.
After watching that movie I did the exact same thing and found that it tastes pretty darn good. I mean, they're both dairy products and both chilled. So, they go well together as long as it's ICE CREAM. NOT gelato nor sorbet nor popsicles because those would probably NOT go well.
It's kinda like you wanted to make a milkshake but then you remembered you didn't have a blender and just decided to pour the milk over the ice cream. Genius. My question would be: Why didn't I try this out sooner?!
Anyways, college has been hell. 4 submissions and assignments due next week. *Stab me now* And all of them run consecutively. More Japan pictures will be up soon. Hopefully tomorrow. I tried uploading them earlier but the internet is giving me html nightmare.
Stay tuned for photos from Ginza, Tokyo.

Inspiration | Albert Hammond Jr. X Confederacy
Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes has recently collaborated with L.A. retailer Confederacy launching an awesome limited suit collection. The colours range from greys and creams to gorgeous burgandy. It has a slight rock style feel to it with a fitted look and even the trousers are slim and narrow.
If I am ever looking for a suit, I'm definitely taking this type of fit into consideration. And no way in hell can I afford any of these suits which cost upwards of USD$2000.
Stay tuned for more.
