Chicago: Sculptures at Grant Park

Look what I came across while walking along Grant Park in downtown Chicago a few days back.

They are these sculptures of legs, all without torsos and heads by Magdalena Abakanowicz. And is entitled: Agora. They are cast out of iron in Poland and you can clearly see that it has rusted and stained the concrete ground. But I find it somewhat poetic that way. But walking through them, you can smell the rust.

PS: I'll be in Michigan over the weekend.

Stay tuned for more.

Absolute Garbage

It all comes down to presentations. How you sell yourself, your ideas, your thoughts and your designs all depends on how well you present it. It's about how effective you market something. Even in this course I'm taking. Half the work is in designing a funtioning, thoughtful, aesthetically pleasing structure, while the other half is to sell it to the people you're designing it for.

If you don't believe how far clever marketing and packaging can go, check out Justin Gignac (pronounced jee-nak). Who has managed to package absolute garbage and sell them for a pretty penny. And by 'absolute garbage' I LITERALLY mean GARBAGE. Like seriously...

He collects crap off the streets of New York City (usually something which defines the city) and packages them in a clean transparent cube which is completely sealed. And the best part is, people actually buy them.

- I see a starbucks plastic cup and a New York Metro card. And some orange paper or something.

Urgh...and my friend said that my stack of KTM ticket passes were useless.

Eye See

-Look

How do you know when you've got...'the eye'. That Eye which reads the language of design. The eye which sheds tears of creativity. Skills, taste, style and having a great eye for things are not things which come naturally to me and I'm not sure whether it can be acquired. And that's why I'm in this limbo. I need something to strengthen my hopes and force me to look past the haze.

I've come to question my abilities. I'm not sure if I've got what it takes to do what I'm doing. I'm not certain if I've got the flare that one should have to succeed in design. It's something which is just so subjective and baseless.
