Eye Spy

Bottega Veneta, Spring/Summer 2010

I like the neck line of that boat neck top in the first picture. The new Topman LTD collection here has a sweater in that neckline. But it's white with horizontal stripes and frankly, I'd prefer it to be a solid colour. And plus, it's out of my budget. And as for the second picture, I just love the colour green.

10 Floors Up

It's awesome when you get to explore places you wouldn't ordinarily go. Like yesterday when I had to go for a site visit in Jalan Raja Chulan. We somehow ended up at the rooftop of a dodgy hotel, which had a good view of the surrounding. It was worth scaling up the billboard ladder up to the very top eventhough I was standing on these metal bars which were wobbly and the edge of the building was exactly where my bum was rested on.

| 10 floors up

I've got a ton of things to do although I'm only taking 3 subjects this semester. It's hectic but I'm quite excited over the course of projects which are going to be presented to us. The first project from studio is already halfway through and my submission is pending just a few days shy from Chinese New Year. And the assigned brief is to design a memorial for a dead famous person. It's harder than you think.

Dangling carrots

You know how some hefty people try to get inspired to work out more often, eat healthy, lose weight and all that crap by purchasing a shirt or some other piece of clothing that is one or two sizes too small for their frame. A piece of clothing which would burst at the seams and rip apart if they were to wear it then and there. Otherwise known as the Dangling Carrot method?

Well, I do have something similar. Except mine's one size too big. And on that note, I gained 2 kgs over my holidays in Penang.

Self Doubt

I've been back in PJ and classes have definitely resumed and we're all pretty much jumping straight into the work which already has been handed out. It's quite unnerving for me since it's the last semester here and I'm still constantly trying to deal with the doubts I have about my self and my abilities.

I'm actually very excited about this semester and the projects which i'm about to undertake but at the same time, it's quite a stretch for me when I am questioning my own quality of work. I haven't had much success in my studio projects especially last semester's. And there is little evidence that I'm doing to great job at all.

All I can really do it to just strive on and push forward in my work. And not get caught up in the past things that I've done. But once I'm done with my Diploma, I need a serious evaluation of my strenghts and weaknesses. I need a SWOT analysis.

Bacon talking

Joey posted this up and I thought it was bizarrely awesome. Having a conversation with an Artificial Intelligence. I have to say I had a decent conversation. Probably more decent than most that I've had with people online.

Juz: Are you interested in fashion?

Cleverbot: Very interested.

Juz: Really?

Cleverbot: Yes.

Juz: What kind of clothes would you wear?

Cleverbot: Normal clothes. What kind do you wear?

Juz: Anything that highlites my appearance.

Cleverbot: I am really sad right now.

Juz: Why so?

Cleverbot: The book has no plot. It just describes how pretty Edward Cullen is.

Juz: I hate that book.

Cleverbot: Do you like the movie?

Juz: Never even watched it.

Cleverbot: If you could name me what would it be?

Juz: Bacon.

Cleverbot: Bacon makes me fat.

Juz: I'm hungry.

Cleverbot: What do you want?

Juz: A milkshake.

Cleverbot: Brings all the boys to the yard.

Juz: That's kelis.

Cleverbot: Ill crush you.

Juz: Maybe a slice of cake will do.

Cleverbot: What kind of cake?

Juz: Black forrest.

Cleverbot: I really want some of that cake.

Spot On: Jean Paul Gaultier X Levi's

I've been looking forward to Jean Paul Gaultier's collaboration with Levi's. It's giving the jean jacket a new update, but it doesn't stop there. The collaboration also features jeans and shirts. I love how they are using raw denim which makes it look so much more sleek. And also how the pieces feature contrasting red stitching.
These garments are pretty edgy but I think they would look good in most guys' wardrobes.

I would love to see these pieces hit Malaysian stores. But I'm not counting on it.

- raw denim jacket with contrasting red stitching.

- white trimming detail on the jacket with a red undercollar.

- I'm most attracted to this bondage/skydiving-inspired denim jacket.

- Denim shorts with an interesting striped pattern on the reverse side.

- Jeans with multiple straps.

I've never really liked jean jackets but the bondage inspired ones sure got me captivated.

Watch the clothes.

I'm sure most people would have watched Sherlock Holmes by now since its release about 2 weeks ago. Reviews were quite mixed from my friends. Some found the story deviating from its original plot whilst others welcomed the modern twist and breath of fresh air from director Guy Ritchie.

To be honest, I myself thought it was a decent movie. I found the setting and filmography captivating in the dreary grey London setting. Oh how I love gloomy weather. I liked how the movie unfolded and how it was presented with the frequent flashbacks when deducing a scenario. But more than that, I was extremely awed by the costumes.

I thought the costume designer did a splendid job in creating the clothes. They were absolutely stunning. Jackets, coats, fitting three-piece suits, high club collars, braces, scarves, neckties, hats, waistcoats. I was drowning in a sea of tweed, knits, herringbone and prince of wales checks. Well, drowning in a good way of course. These are the clothes, that I myself, and I'm sure many others too, would wear today.

- Gorgeous three-piece suit in tweed.

- This shot is serioualy making me toy with the idea of getting braces.

- I absolutely loved this sleek almost black jacket with the straps dangling down the middle as worn by Jude Law. It was my favourite piece in the movie and stood out even though it was only featured briefly in the dinner scene.

Frankly, I enjoyed the movie mostly because of the clothes and furnishings and settings. I liked how it was so rich and gritty at the same time. Good stuff there. I also found it interesting that the iconic deerstalker hat that is very much associated with Sherlock Holmes was somewhat non-present. Instead, it was swapped with fedoras and newsboy caps. As for the movie as a whole, as I said earlier, not mind-blowing but...decent.

Being Resolute.

It's not conventional of me to make New Year's resolutions. I simply believe that making resolutions is equivalent to setting cliched impossible goals, also known as "NOT GONNA HAPPEN".

And then you end up sad, dissapointed and desperate at the end of the year when you look at yourself in the mirror and realise time has trickled by and you've barely achieved anything in that overweight body of yours. Yes, I'm bitter like that. It's a gift.

Nevertheless, I am feeling more optimistic this year. It is 2 oh 1 oh and I'm willing to look at things in a new light. And making resolutions seems to be a way to start.

1| I am putting an embargo on shopping until mid-March. Yes, if you know me, you know I love shopping. I'm swearing off shopping for clothes for the first three months as a test run. I am only allowing myself to buy clothes that I need for Chinese New Year and by 'need' I mean 2 more pieces. Because my CNY outfits are 85% complete. The year-end sales are so much better than CNY sales. And shopping ahead of time decreases stress and waste.

2| To be more physically active. I sincerely think I'm physically active when I'm in Penang but not in PJ. I prefer to walk and/or cycle when I get the chance. In Penang, I'm 'going green' by cycling to work everyday. It's already been a month and I'm not complaining. But it's a different story in PJ. So, I'm hoping to increase vigorous physical activity when I return to PJ to curb inactivity.

3| To explore. I'm eager to explore more of the KL/Klang Valley area. Anyone up for a little adventure?

4| To eat more and to create a good eating habit. To not skip breakfast and try not to skip ANY meals.

5| To create. Creatively.

That's all that I have in mind. I think it helps to more specific in your resolutions in order to make things work. I don't want to find myself at the end of this year having created nothing, gone nowhere, thin as a stick from under-eating with a pile of clothes in my already bursting wardrobe.
