New, New, New

Hello 2007. New year, new place, new experiances.
Happy New Year to all of you out there. Hope you guys ushered in the year with a bang. For me, it was just a quite moment with my mum and sis, watching TV in the apartment. Nice and peaceful.

Dec 29th was my mum's birthday and so, as her present, my sister planned a trip for us to go to Newport, Rhode Island. We mostly spent the day sight-seeing, which was like totaly awesome. Got to see a couple of boats at Bowen's Wharf. Walked round a couple of shops in the slow, peaceful neighbourhood. Then after, we visited...The Vanderbilt Mansion!!! The mansion was really really indescribable, like I couldn't even comprehend how people could actually have lived in there. It looked more like a museum in more ways. It was absolutely fantastic! Let's let the pictures do the talking shall we?

-on our way to Newport

- hmm...i didn't notice there were no boats there

- ahh...there you go, boats!

- The Vanderbilt Mansion...WOW

The following day (Dec 30th), we visited... NEW YORK... Yes NEW YORK BABY, WHOO-HOO! It was like totally one of the bestest place i've ever visited ever. It was all there, 5th Avenue, Times Square, Battery Park, Rockefella Center and oh so much more. The city was huge! Like to get around the city, we used the subway, coz' it was like the cheapest mode of transport: $7 for a day.

I absolutely LOVED New York. It was bloody great! To get there, we took bout' 2 and a half hours. We visited places like Battery Park and from there we could spot the Statue of Liberty, then we made our way to Chinatown, Central Park (everything looks dead there), Rockefella Center, and finally Times Square!!! It was so spectacular! I couldn't believe it myself that I was actually there!

I can't really upload anymore pictures in this post for God knows what reason, so I decided i'll put it up in friendster or ringo...and maybe both. If I have time, i'll put them up here as well! But for now, bye!

Much more to come...reporting to you live from USA.

Boston Day 2

We returned to Boston the day after our first visit. We arrived in the morning about 10 o' clock since the day before we decided to visit the museum of science to witness the 'Body Worlds 2' exhibition there. It you haven't heard of this exhibition, you can google it up but briefly, the exhibition features human bodies which have been preserved via a technique called plastination developed by Gunther von Hagens. It involves draining of the donated body's fluids (yes...DONATED) and then substituting it with plastic by injecting molten plastic in and when it hardens, the body is preserved. The bodies are exhibited are usually skinned so as to show the tendons, ligaments, muscles, blood vessels and muscles beneath. The bodies are also places in various positions as to display the movement of the muscles. Some diseased organs are also shown. Personally, I found it educational but also sickening. Unfortunately, photography was prohibited. Looking at the REAL dead people made me kinda woosy. So I guess, surgeon is a profession I won't be considering at all...

-outside the museum of science, by the river

After staring at dead bodies for an hour or two we payed a visit to the public park and walked around a little bit. (Now there's a sentence I never thought i'd use)

-the park!!!

-a huge LIVE christmas tree!!!

-some monument

Now i'm back in Bristol and my routine is back to sleep, eat and watch TV. It's not like I can shop and tour all week long can I? So anyway, we're planning to go to New York soon and considering to spend New Years there. But the cost of dining in a restaurant in New York on new year's eve is going to burn several holes in our pockets. So we probably won't be doing that. Bummer.

F.Y.I.: If you wanna see more photos, i'm going to upload them into my friendster or ringo account!!

Boston Day 1: Part 2

Boston Day 1: Part 1

Okay, so i haven't updated this baby in a week or two but that's only because I was visiting BOSTON...that's right, BOSTON BABY!!! Well, actually I was staying in a place called North Attleboro, Massachusettes coz my sister's friend, Seng Lee, stays there and his place was only 45 minutes away from Boston. So we stayed at his place for 5 days and we made 2 trips to Boston.
Boston was great! On our first trip, my mum met her old highschool friend an she took us out for lunch in a Korean place nearby her house.

-at that Korean place

And later, she suggested places which we could visit in and around Boston so to the subway we headed!

From there, we went around Boston walking here and there, freezing ourselves. It was so damn cold! We visited Faneuil Hall Market Place which was a place for food and shopping. But we didn't do much there since we weren't all that hungry.

-in front of the bells of Faneuil Hall

-stilll at the market place

Then, we took a brisk walk towards the pier and then we decided to have dinner at an italian restaurant in what deemed to be little italy. The food there was great. Like ten times better than Bella Italia, Pg but the price was trifold! Scary...

After that, we headed back to Seng Lee's and that's pretty much the end of day one.

PS: i can't upload all the photos so i'll be uploading some other photos in my next post

USA whoo-hoo

Ahoy there matey!
Finally! After 30 hours of travelling halfway round the globe, I have arrived here in the land where blondes are everywhere, people drive on the right side of the road and the accent spoken is so thick that you can cut it with a knife, AMERICA!

Right now, i'm only armed with dehydrated skin, bloodshot eyes, insufficient sleep and an internal clock that is completely outta whack! Can't get any better than this can it?

So, the place i'm in now is Bristol, Connecticut and it's not what I had expected. It's not snowing (bummer right!) but it's still pretty chilly 'coz it's like 6 degrees celcius and vapor comes outta your mouth when you exhale outdoors. The trees round here are practically bald and leafless except for the conifers with their adaptations which is: needle shaped leaves. Let me show you:

- vapory breath

- hey where the leaves go?!

Another thing is that people staying here decorate their lawns and houses so much for christmas and some over-do it beyond the tacky point.

- some random decorated houses

AND another thing is that the sun sets at around 5pm! 5 bloody pm and I was like "what the hell??" By 6 it's completely dark dee and then the temperature drops further. But the good thing is that I would be sitting or sleeping cosily in me sis' heated apartment. Oh yeah! so far, in Bristol, i haven't seen a house more than 2 stories high nor a single fence. Yes that's right, land is cheap here that the majority of the houses are single floored and anyone can just walk from one house to the other ungated house.

Here's another random picture I took from the plane of the suburbs of chicago:

- Look at the well organised streets here!

For the weekend, my sister's going out of town and me and my mom will be cooped up at home, don't expect me to post anything until next week. But don't worry, I still have three and a half weeks still to spend. And f.y.i. to the people I know, NO SOUVENIRS FOR YOU! Things are not al cheepo here alright. Most things are so darn expensive!

More to come, coz' I haven't visited anywhere yet!

Whoo-hoo!!!

Hey guys!

Just posting this blog to tell you all that this might be my last entry from me from Malaysia for this year. Yup, yup...i'm goin' on HOLIDAY!!! Whoo-hoo!!! Yes, it's only three days left for me here and on Wednesday, I will be heading for USA!!! Whoo-hoo!!! Yeah, it's gonna be great. I'm goin' there with me mum and sis (who just arrived here two days ago) but not my dad 'coz he's gotta work :(

Right now i'm packing my ass off, it's crazy! I mean I haven't been to anywhere where there is snow, so I haven't a clue on what to bring. Haih. Anyways, i'll try to do more postings when I get there and i'll try to upload as many photos as I can to keep an update, alright? Great!
So, Happy Holidays everybody!!!

Opening of a Mall

The last few days have been just crazed for me. I've been here and there and there again. I've been going swimming lately and it's really liberating even though i'm not good at it but it's been such a long time. But the biggest thing so far: The Queensbay Mall Opening!!!

Queensbay Mall is awesome for it's size. It's length is about twice that of Gurney Plaza...maybe even more. But what attract's me most is the shops which will be opening there: Topman, Gap, inbase, Puma, and et cetera. It really gives it a KL-ish feel to the place. The clean interior decor, the wide spaces and the presence of a basement with high ceilings really make me feel like i'm in Midvalley Megamall. The amount of food outlets there are no exception to the awesomeness. T.G.I.F., Dave's Deli, and so on and on.

The only thing that gets to me is the distance of it from my home. But having been driving to Inti for the past year I don't find it too far after all. It would be just like another trip to classes...only I would be shopping...hehe.
But to sum it up, Queensbay Mall has achieved a KL standard, really top-notch!

Be warned: Do not go there during rush hour (like lunch time) and during the weekends and avoid it during the holidays, well at least until the novelty of the mall wears off. But if you enjoy crowds and if you're a the-more-the-merrier kinda person, by all means, go anytime you want.

- Can I say more?

- coming soon to QM.

Another warning: It's a bitch to go there on the weekends because of:
- the damn jam.

And another thing is that, when you're there, you would undoubtedly be tempted to shop!

- Ivan shops!

Okay, that aside, i've been keeping myself busy trying to write my uni admissions essay which I have to hand in later in the week. Writing this essay is really difficult having not been to any classes for the last one to two months. Bloody Hell difficult. Other than that, i'm really psyched about me holiday trip next week! But I haven't started packing yet coz I don't know how. Another thing i'm psyches about: my sister's coming back this Thursday! So, yay!

PS: Thanks for the belt Iv!

Recap

Hey again, i've been quite busy lately. Let's see: Movie on wednesday with Zhi Xiang. Step Up, starring Jenna Dewan And Channing Tatum was awesome...well, the dance moves were anyway but for the plot, i'd quote Mr Ian Howell that it was "so predictable." But it's still worth watching!!!

Both Thursdays and Fridays, i've been gettin' up early and going jogging. I gotta say that I really like the feeling after a brisk walk and hitting the shower after. So rejuvenating. But throw in an additional three hours of walking around the mall, shopping with Ivan, and I now my feet are so damn sore.

I've got nothing planned for next week. Just taking everything slow and easy here. Gotta enjoy life! And plus I like to plan things as I go along and time passes by. But there's so much to do and so little time. In about two weeks, i'll be going on my holidays dee. So, now i'm beginning to think about what I wanna do before I go...you know, spend my time wisely.

If you don't mind, I gotta sleep now 'coz my eyes are drooping and i'm really tired. Oh, and by the way, Happy World Aquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Day.

Better be safe than sorry!
