Kg. Baru

About a week ago we had our Studio site visit. Nothing big, unlike the Malacca trip I had in the first semester. This one was to Kampung Baru in Kuala Lumpur. To me, Kg. Baru has always been the LRT stop before reaching KLCC and seeing that the LRT runs beneath the ground, i've never actually seen what it looks like.

To me, kampungs evoke the image of attap houses on stilts sitting on dirt roads with children and chickens and other animals running in the vicinity. That may have been the case a decade or so ago but now it's an area quite populated with low-cost flats visible around the corners and Malay food stalls and other small businesses lining the streets. And what's special about it is the fact that the backdrop to Kg. Baru is the cityscape of Kuala Lumpur with the Petronas twin towers gleaming in the mid-day sun. The trip was certainly an eye-opening one. I think a trip to Kuala Lumpur should include a pit-stop over at Kg. Baru especially in the morning for a hearty breakfast of nasi lemak :)
