Four

fairisle shawl-collar sweater | H&M

...and introducing my bicycle the Mr. Balmont. He's an olive green Hercules road bicycle which I bought in October last year, but have only lately begun to fully utilize it since it's finally getting a little warmer. It's a decent slightly rusty vintage bicycle with a very basic 3 gear change. Nothing fancy and definitely not polished in hopes I don't fall victim to bicycle theft.

Freezing White Christmas

Christmas is just around the corner along with it, New Year's, Valentines and before you know it, they light up the damn Christmas tree again and 2011 is over. Before I get all bitter and talk about the time flying by at an amazingly loathsome pace, I shall just remind myself to just narrate what is going on with me right now in the present.

This week was a little bit crazy. First of all, it's been snowing and there is about 20cms of snow on the ground. Yes, yes, it's lovely and everything but I have to tell you, it's only lovely when you see it from the window inside the house next to a heater or fireplace. Outside, the temperatures are freezing, a couple of days ago, it hit -16°C. Yes, you read that right. The UK is going into a deep freeze. It's apparently one of the worst winters in history. For the first few days, the snow was fun, but it kinda gets annoying after awhile, but i'll try to keep myself amused with it.

When I go out these few days, I have to practically wear 5 layers and wear boots or some kind footwear which is suitable to walk in ankle deep snow on the pavements. And when I'm outside, it's freezing, it's windy, the snow on the pavements can get slushy, so it feels like you're walking on slurpee. I'm actually considering getting wellies.

So when you look at the following depictions of a winter wonderland, keep in mind that it's windy, wet, slippery and freezing.

New campus life

Classes have resumed as per usual if not for the drastic change in scenery. The new Taylor's Lakeside Campus is large. Three blocks about nine floors each with other facilities still undergoing construction. The building is.....well...meh. It's alright I guess. Well i'll only be here for another couple weeks before I finish off my diploma so I won't be here long.

The change in location doesn't really affect my driving route all that much since it's pretty much in the same area. The facilities have improved but that would probably come at a cost for newbies. Thank god this is my last semester. But here's the part which is rich. Food is priced higher than most places, our studios and computer labs which I need desperately to do my renderings and projects have yet to be properly set up, the parking areas are bursting at the seams, the 'lake' in 'lakeside campus' is actually an abandoned mining pool and the fact that the site is located directly next to what I presume is a cattle farm is...how shall I put it...an olfactory violation.

3D glasses

They're not as bad as they look, them 3D glasses. At least they're no longer those flimsy plastic or cardboard cutout ones. But I hope they're made from recycled materials.

Random

I prefer walking around the city at night. The cooler atmosphere, the buildings all lit up and al fresco dining and hang out scenes. The only major problem I have is that there SHOULD be more buildings. And more lights.

I wish I could be anywhere but here, underneath cloudless skies.
I wish I could be anything.

Summer

I'm obsessed with summer. The sun shining brightly, vegetation thriving, warm sand on your feet and sunglasses perched precariously on my face. I always think of doing all sorts of activities when I go back to Penang. I want to have a lazy afternoon by the shore, a walk around Georgetown, cycling in Pulau Tikus or brunch at noon in an alfresco cafe.

But in the end I find myself not doing most of them. Not everything turns out the way I want it to because over the months in KL, I've painted this perfect setting of how things are supposed to turn out. They mostly fail. Sometimes it's the temperemental weather, conflicting schedules, friends who aren't willing to commit or even money issues. And the realization that brunch at noon in an alfresco cafe would just give me a heat stroke.

So, I'm not entirely obsessed with summer. I'm only obsessed with the IDEA of summer. I've deduced that it's my form of escapism in college.

PS: I DO know it's summer here 24/7 365.

Panic.....NOW.

It just hit me today that I only have another week and a half before my classes officially end and the Study Week begins. Which means I only have 10 more days to finish up my Working Drawing Details and to RESUBMIT all of the previous ones with amendments. Which ALSO means I ONLY have 10 DAYS before my INTERNAL CRIT SESSION WITH MY LECTURERS WHICH CONSTITUTE A QUARTER OF MY STUDIO MARKS. WHICH ALSO MEANS that NEXT WEEK is the LAST WEEK FOR ANY KIND OF TUTORIALS FOR STUDIO BEFORE THE LAST 100 METER DASH TO THE END OF THE SEMESTER CRIT. WHICH MEANS I NEED TO DEVELOP, AMEND, PROCESS, AMEND SOMEMORE, PRODUCE AND FINISH UP MY STUDIO BY NEXT WEEK!!!

WHICH MEANS!!!!!

I. AM. SO. SCREWED.

Please throw me into the nearest ocean.

Stay tuned for advanced panicking.

Penang for the Weekend

Last weekend, I played tour guide for three of my college friends who followed me back to Penang. It was pretty fun, mildly productive and it generated some new idea in my own head. I hope they had a good time too.

Update

Nothing much has been happening with me. I've been staying at home doing the things my normal college life won't permit. Namely, T.V. and reading. I've also gone to town to take some pictures of the pedestrian bridge and the area around it for the future assignment and I can think of a few people who would want them from me. And I would of course gladly give said pictures to them.

I just returned from the mall and was midly surprised to see that they had erected a fun fair on the grounds adjacent to Queensbay Mall. However, I did not go on any of the rides. I was merely attracted to the lights.

May I

Out with May yesterday night. It's been a pretty long while but I feel as though nothing's changed. We still talked as though we haven't seen each other in a week.

Bowling!

We went bowling today!

It's been a couple of weeks since I saw the interior of a mall. I hardly went shopping in the past month. To put it in perspective, the most exciting I bought was bread. And milk. Well, two cartons of milk. Fresh milk.

Anyway, today was an unusually casual day. We had classes but not much teaching was done. Just tutorials and then we were off to the mall for bowling. Days like this are hard to come by. More so in the next month when things start to crank up and assignments start to pour in again. I'm taking a moment to enjoy this.

Sunny Days Ahead.

Those two-three weeks of maddening work is over and gone. Models were made, re-made and done. Presentations were put together, presented and critically remarked. And all in all, those 2 whole long weekends, weekends with extended holidays and all, weekends which could have been used up for a leisurely stroll through malls with friends, paid off. At least I think it did. I'm happy with the way the site and zoning models turned out. They look pretty cool in a 1:500 scale. I HAVE to take some pictures of them.

To all the people who's calls or smses I ignored or did not reply, I'm sorry. Imagine living for nearly 3 weeks straight on a 9am to 2am work schedule 7 days a week. If that's not tiring I don't know what is. And on top of that, having to attend classes during the week days and listen to a 2 hour long lecture.

I have an exam this coming Monday. And a submission on Tuesday. But other than that, I'm already anticipating the upcoming Raya holidays. Life's starting to look good again.

Stay tuned for sunnier skies.

You Drive me Crazy

My assignments are driving me up the wall.

Literally.

It's already been two straight weeks of non-stop working. I've been going to college every single day in those two weeks and I have to continue doing so until the thing is done and over with. It's taking a toll on nearly everyone. I was very productive initially but I'm beginning to feel sluggish and I can't even imagine how the people who are fasting manage to get through the day and do their work arduously. I find myself slacking off in the past two days. I just feel... Tired.

I need some energy boost. I wonder if any of those energy drinks help. Any suggestions?

I've got to get over this because everything has to be completed in due time and the whole show's going down this Thursday.

Hectic

It's been a terrible week. Assignments are due in a weeks' time but the workload ahead of us is just unbelievably daunting. There is just so much to do. The 1:500 scale model of Georgetown, Penang is no where near complete. I'm placed under the presentation team but I've to put that on hold coz' the model making team is seriously lacking in manpower. I've been going to college so often that I actually FEEL productive for an extended period of time instead of just relapses and traces of said productivity.

I've got dark circles around my eyes the size of dinner plates, I feel dehydrated and I'm eating more junk food than ever. I don't like where this is going but I am gradually changing my meals. Oh, when will this hellacious task come to an end?
